The “Music in New Jersey” website explores the wide diversity of music and soundscapes in New Jersey, and particularly the greater Princeton area. Most of the research you see in these pages are completed by students at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where public musicology is a core component of the undergraduate music history curriculum. You can find more information about Westminster’s one-of-a-kind Masters of Music degree in American and Public Musicology here.
One major feature of this website is oral histories with New Jerseyans who are deeply involved in music, be they professional and amateur musicians, concertgoers, music teachers, music administrators, or donors to musical organizations. Another major feature is a blog on a variety of musical topics in the greater Princeton area.
Also on this website is information about “The Past, Present and Future of Public Musicology” conference, which Westminster Choir College of Rider University will host from January 30 to February 1, 2015. Forthcoming are Westminster student projects on “The Sounds of Princeton” and “The Westminster Choir World Tour, 1956-57.”
